Kit-less pen in confetti blank

Celebrating Indian festival of colour- holi. Made a kit-less pen today in a colourful blank.But ran short of original blank. The cap is made with some silmilar looking blank I had cast long ago...the difference in material and colour still shows, Schmidt nib unit. At 136 mm this is a regular sized pen. There is no thread between cap and barrel, it is slide fit.

Black and white Kit-less pen

Completed one more Kit-less pen in Black and white swirl pearly acrylic. Schmidt no.5 nib and converter. The barrel had broken earliers re-made with a 10 mm insert piece.Thanks for viewing, and as always, welcome comments.

Deep Blue Kit-less pen

A deep blue pen in chrome clip and nib. Completed after a struggle of sorts! Generally happy with the finished pen. At 150 mm long and 16 mm diam at centre, this is a bit of a larger sized pen.

The poly-ester resin blank was brittle at thin scantlings- the barrel threads sharp edges broke off at places , will need to make smooth when I get some time later.The section threaded part broke off while drilling, so made a brass coupler. That apart, feeling generally happy with the way the pen turned out.Schmidt size 6 fine nib unit and converter.

This material is new to me.Very hard and brittle.But I found out how to work with it- spray water and keep it wet. once cold it is strong like steel, But if allowed to be heated it melt like jelly and rupture, that too all of a sudden. I used a tool that I reserve for stainless steel and other hard material. Ordinary tools get blunted soon and large chips break off. Wood working chisels if used need to to be razor sharp.The opposite end of the spectrum is the obedient ebonite'!

Green and Khaki ebonite Clip-less pen

A clip-less pen in Green and Khaki ebonite- this pen is by far the least flawed pen I could make. happy to share the photos. Schmidt 6 nib unit and converter. I will keep this clip-less only. Wondering if body colour roll stopper would be a good idea or any other?

Shotgun pen in Bakelite

Similar to the shotgun Kit pen shown earlier here, this is another Shotgun pen in polished Bakelite ( Micarta ).The theme was to make a shotgun pen using same material for cap and barrel.

The treatment to the micarta involves dry sanding , followed by oil sanding to grit 1000 in steps, then 4 coats of thin CA [ indian fevikwick] and one coat of medium CA Loctite. After drying /curing overnight the surface is wet sanded with water in stages and finally with 3M rubbing polish. This is one difficult material to drill as it does not conduct heat, the accumulated heat from drilling cracks the tube .. I lost two pieces that way, very frustrating !

Kitless pen in red sparkle acrylic material

A red sparkle kit-less pen. The pen came out generally OK but there were deformations from the heat of polishing at places.Also the cap finial shifted to one side and bottom of the section cracked at one place. This is a beautiful blank but working with it is difficult as it is too brittle and since I am using this for the first time it was difficult to decide on the correct cutting speed. Too slow - the material tend to chip off, and faster it causes plastic deformation!

A Kit-less pen in pink

A kit-less pen in pink resin. The resin was cast by me using 3m repair resin and acrylic paint and it is a wek material compared to acrylic. So internally a metal tube structure is fitted. Making the metal structure took some more time. The pen element ie the section  converter and nib unit is from an unknown brand ex-Malaysia. Writes very well though. hanks for viewing.
